Ozanam for school
The project, carried out thanks to the funds of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul of Verona, offers the students of the VR12 Golosine Comprehensive Institute (Verona) the opportunity to receive educational support and counseling for children in difficult situations in the school environment.
Doctors for Peace, as a partner in the project, will carry out study support and mediation interventions with the families of Roma and Sinti students present in the reference institute.
The context
School represents the training moment par excellence for the development of the skills necessary to become an adult. The project was created to offer a path of support and accompaniment complementary to the work of teachers to intercept situations of discomfort, both in students and in family members, in order to intervene with counseling sessions: counseling is intended as a helping relationship that supports those who are in a moment of crisis, offers a space for listening and reflection, in which to explore difficulties related to evolutionary processes, transition phases and states of crisis and strengthen the ability to choose or change.
Activities
In this context, the intervention of Doctors for Peace plans to create a discussion table with the Verona 12 Comprehensive Institute, the “Tante tinte” network, Cestim, CST4 and the University of Verona to offer a path of accompaniment and support to Roma and Sinti students who struggle to integrate into the dynamics of the school. The path, created thanks to the support of cultural mediators, aims to create the conditions for a dialogue
between Roma/Sinti families and the school, to encourage interventions to improve coexistence and relationships in school classes, and finally to identify and implement paths with Roma and Sinti pupils.
The actions that will be carried out to achieve these objectives are:
● Training and counselling of school staff, teaching and non-teaching.
● Study support interventions;
● Mediation interventions with families.
