MYANMAR – COVID-19 emergency

MYANMAR – COVID-19 emergency

The project, financed with Doctors for Peace’s own funds and carried out by the local partner KMSS and the volunteers of Three Pagoda, has improved the living conditions of the local population affected by the health emergency and the Covid-19 containment measures through the distribution of basic necessities. The surgery brought relief to families in Three Pagoda Pass, Kayin State near the border with Thailand.

Project Map

The context

The health emergency caused by Covid-19 has caused many victims in Western countries, where health facilities are more numerous and equipped. In developing countries, however, the situation is quite different since a large part of the population does not even have access to basic necessities such as water, sanitation and personal protective equipment. The situation is also aggravated by the economic characteristics of these countries: millions of people live on an informal economy and subsistence, and have no savings. For this reason, the Covid-19 containment measures, such as social distancing and quarantine, have put the socio-economic resilience of many families from the less well-off classes in great difficulty.

Activities

In order to respond to needs that have emerged after the health emergency, Doctors for Peace:
– offered basic necessities to the poorest families of Three Pagoda Pass, on the border with Thailand.
