The intervention

Doctors for Peace, thanks to funding from the Cariverona Foundation, donations from private citizens and collaboration with the Cini association, has carried out a multi-year social and health project in favour of women and children living in the villages around Kampil, in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

The entire population residing in the villages was the recipient of an intensive health and nutrition education program. Therapeutic services were provided free of charge to women and children belonging to families recognized by the Indian government as being below the poverty line (Below Poverty Line – GLP).

The Kampil Dispensary, a health center of reference for the more than 7,000 people living in the surrounding villages, has been renovated and strengthened. Diagnostic and therapeutic services were provided such as: the detection and monitoring of pregnancies at risk through regular obstetric-gynecological check-ups, with prompt hospitalization of obstetric emergencies; the vaccination of pregnant women against tetanus and the vaccination of children against diphtheria, tetanus, measles and polio; the administration of iron and folic acid to prevent maternal and infant anemia.

Nutritional and hygiene education sessions for future mothers and sex education and family planning for young couples were also carried out.
