COVID-19: support in the emergency!
The project, funded by the Veneto Region with state resources from the Ministry of Labour and Social Policies and carried out by Doctors for Peace, aims to support and assist families living in conditions of economic hardship and social fragility due to the containment measures of the SARS-CoV-2 virus through the purchase and delivery of solidarity expenses, of drugs, of equipment to support Distance Learning (DAD), as well as offering them a psychological listening desk.
The context
Since the state of emergency was decreed at the beginning of the year, the economic situation for many families has worsened considerably: the lockdown that characterized the spring months has further aggravated the living conditions of the most fragile families.
Families who lived, and live, with at least one member in precarious work conditions, found themselves without a sufficient source of support to support the family economy; In addition, social distancing and the sense of isolation imposed to combat the pandemic have also limited those fundamental social ties on which many of these families in difficulty desperately rely.
The combination of these factors has brought out a substantial number of unmet needs that cannot be filled only by the economic support measures provided by institutional bodies.
Activities
In this context, Doctors for Peace, together with its volunteers, has carried out various support activities to best respond to every type of need:
– solidarity shopping for families in poverty: given the precarious economic situation and the difficulties, especially for the elderly, in leaving home, MpP has organized a solidarity shopping service at home aimed at all people in need;
– medicines at home: MpP also gives the possibility to receive medicines and personal protective equipment free of charge, directly at home;
– hardware and software for students: even the youngest have been affected by the measures to contain the virus with the introduction of Distance Learning (DAD), which involves the use of computer systems such as computers, tablets and the internet to follow school lessons. Doctors for Peace provides this equipment to those who cannot afford it;
– psychological listening desk: due to the unprecedented situation we are experiencing, many people have found themselves in emotional and psychological difficulty, and cases of anxiety and stress have multiplied. For this reason, Doctors for Peace provides a psychological listening desk dedicated to all people in difficulty.
