Project Map
The context
The project made it possible to carry out a health screening for 300 children in orphanages.
Activities
Doctors for Peace has supported the AiBi – Friends of Children association by carrying out a health screening of children hosted in public orphanages in Phnom Penh, Pursat and Battabang.
In the Asian country, dictatorship and civil war, which lasted until 1989, caused further poverty and social disintegration. Children were the victims most affected by this tragedy, and, even today, child abandonment is a widespread phenomenon in Cambodia.
Amici dei Bambini has launched the “Chicchi di felicità” project in public orphanages, carrying out first emergency interventions and support activities for minors abandoned at birth and not registered in the registry office.
The medical staff of Doctors for Peace visited the children hosted in the three orphanages, finding psychophysical problems, venereal hereditary diseases, psychomotor deficits and, in some cases, damage due to surgical operations performed in the past.
